Crankshaft and camshaft sensors provide information about engine speed and the exact position and speed of several engine parts - pistons, camshaft and valves.

Supplying this information to engine control unit (ECU) enables the fuel injection system to operate the engine efficiently

The camshaft sensor measures the position of the camshaft and in conjunction with the crankshaft position is used to determine which stroke each cylinder is.

The ECU needs the signal to determine when to inject fuel and to operate the spark plug.

A faulty sensor can lead to the following problems;

Unstable or erratic running engine
Increase of fuel consumption
Engine power loss
Misfiring
Smokey emissions
Engine stalls or will not start
